Recumbent memorial in Purbeck limestone with bronze coat of arms
The curved form of the stone and the style of the lettering deliberately blur the boundary between classical and modern for this memorial to a great philanthropist and patron of the arts. The stone was also made with weathering in mind, the shape helping to shed rain, and the lettering, deeply incised and tinted with a wash of black enamel. With special thanks to Stephen Pettifer and his team at Coade for assisting with the creation of the coat of arms, and also Abe Shaffer for the installation.
