Eumolpe

Type: Exhibition, For Sale, Sculptural Completed:

Reclaimed slate, 30 x 30 x 1.5cm

Made for the 2025 Lettering Arts Trust’s Nereids exhibition, Eumolpe was the nereid of fishermen’s song.

And if the spring tide eats the land again till even the cottages and cobbled walls of fishermen are billets for the thievish waves

The text is taken from the chorus of fishers in Montagu Slater’s libretto for Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes written in 1945, lines which suit our fragile East coast.
